ESP32‑C6 WiFi/Zigbee to 855–925 MHz Wireless Interface Board

Overview

This board enables reliable communication between WiFi or Zigbee networks and 855–925 MHz sub‑GHz wireless systems. Powered by the ESP32‑C6, it is designed for projects that need to receive, decode, or transmit signals in the 868 MHz band—commonly used in heating, ventilation, and home‑automation equipment.

Why This Board Exists

Many European HVAC systems communicate using the Honeywell Ramses II protocol at 868 MHz. This board provides a compact and open solution for bridging that protocol to modern smart‑home platforms.

I originally built it to integrate my own Orcon ventilation unit into Home Assistant. With the ESP32‑C6 and CC1101, it can now receive and transmit Ramses II messages over both WiFi and Zigbee.

Key Advantages

  • Built around the ESP32‑C6 — offering WiFi 6, Zigbee, Thread, and BLE in a single chip
  • Full support for Ramses II communication over Zigbee and WiFi
  • Uses a robust sub‑GHz module based on the Texas Instruments CC1101, known for excellent sensitivity and stability in the 868 MHz band
  • Ideal for protocol bridging, reverse‑engineering, and DIY automation
  • Includes open‑source firmware and a 3D‑printable enclosure to speed up your project

What You Can Build With It

This board is suitable for:

  • Integrating 868 MHz HVAC systems into Home Assistant
  • Receiving and transmitting Ramses II messages
  • Creating custom sub‑GHz automation devices
  • Replacing proprietary gateways with an open ESP‑based solution
  • Experimenting with CC1101‑based wireless protocols
  • Developing Zigbee‑enabled 868 MHz bridges
